1. What is meant by “He lived a year in a minute”? He felt so much fear in one minute that could have been felt by some one in a whole year.

2. What is meant by “I am still a beast at bay”? He still isn't captured by General Zaroff.

3. In which sea has Connell set Ship-Trap island? Caribbean Sea.

4. How is Zaroff able to finance his life style? He invested heavily in american securities.

5. If Rainsford wins the hunt, what does Zaroff promise him? He walks free off of the island as long as he promises never to speak of the island to anyone.

6. What happened to Lazarus? Lazarus died because he ran after one of the sailors who had gotten caught in quick sand.

7. Where does Rainsford spend the first night of his hunt? He spends the first night of his hunt in a tree.

8. How many acres did Zaroff’s father have in the Crimea? A quarter of a million acres.

9. Why does Zarroff suggest Rainsford wear moccasins? Because it leaves a harder track to follow.

10. What caused Rainsford to believe Zaroff knew he was hiding in the tree? Do you think he was right? Give reasons. Because he looked half way up the tree until right underneath where Rainsford was and blew a smoke ring in his direction and then turned and walked away. Yes i do think he was right I think Zaoff just wanted to play with Rainsford one more day.

11. How does Zaroff stock his island with “game”? He Puts flashing lights which mean that its a safe route for ships to pass through but it's actually full of sharp rocks that hit the bottom of the ships causing them to become shipwrecked.

12. What happened to General Zaroff at the end of the story? At the end of the story General Zaroff is killed and fed to the dogs.

13. Inspite of being hurt, Zaroff congratulates Rainsford on his “Malay mancatcher,” why? Because no one has gotten as far as Rainsford had and actually been able to successfully trick him before.

14. How do we know Rainsford is an exceptionally fit man? Because he was able to swim all the way across the cape to the other side.


15. Discuss the state of mind of Rainsford before he lands on the island versus that after he meets the General. What is different? (Especially about how he perceives animal feelings.)
Before he didn't care about the animals and their feelings. He said that they weren't able to feel anything even fear. After he meets the General he fully learns what it is like to be hunted and how the animals must feel. He has much more sympathy for the animals by the end of the story.

Describe the setting: On a secluded island that is feared by all for unspeakable things.

Type of Conflict: Man Vs. Man

Describe the main conflict: The conflict is that Rainsford gets stranded on an island where he meets General Zaroff who sets him loose on the island to be hunted. If Zaroff wins Rainsford loses his life but if Rainsford can last three days with out being caught he is allowed to walk off the island free as long as he promises to tell no one about the island.

Describe the Climax of the Story:The climax of the story was when Rainsford jumped off the cliff into the rocky water below and everyone thought he had plunged to his death.

How does the Protagonist change over the course of the story? He changes because he starts off being a little on the cold hearted side and didn't think twice about an animals feeling when killing them but by the end of the story he says he now knows when it feels like to be hunted. He becomes more sensitive towards hunting.
